Eilis Hegarty

Eilis is a fourth-year Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major leading the Real Vegan Cheese Project. She hopes to continue her progress in constructing transgenic yeast cells to produce bovine casein proteins, an essential ingredient in traditional dairy products, and tackle economically efficient and environmentally friendly cheese production.
Along with RVC research and food science, Eilis is interested in medicine and interned at Sutter Health in the Cardiac and Neuro Intensive Care Units. After graduating from UC Davis, she hopes to continue to work in the biotech industry.
When she’s not in lab, you’ll find her playing soccer or diving into the latest movies.
