Our Mission:

Support Undergrad Research

The BioInnovation Group is a student-run research community that meet students where they are.

Through our ongoing research projects and several programs dedicated to skill and leadership development, we are creating the next generation of biotech workforce, innovators and leaders.

BIG is short for BioInnovation Group. (That’s us!)

We’re a team of UC Davis students who are passionate about biotechnology.

We want to help undergrads develop their research, laboratory, and leadership skills.

We’re working on this in a few different ways.

BIG manages four programs for UC Davis undergraduates. Each one requires completion of an application, as well as lab safety and training workshops.

perform biotech research

Researchers work on collaborative projects throughout the year. They have the chance to present their work at the Undergraduate Research Conference.

manage our lab

Student Lab Managers (SLM) learn and develop basic laboratory skills while overseeing research in the TEAM lab. They also support our research training program, BIG-RT.

learn to Lead

Students in the Leadership and Innovation Fundamentals Training (LIFT) program engage in a two quarter bootcamp to learn leadership skills with a focus on biotechnology and science research.

 Our Impact

200+

Undergraduates impacted per year

Students can participate in hands-on research, labwork, literature discussions, and career workshops.

50+

Active Researchers

Undergraduates collaborate on student-led research projects in the TEAM lab.

14+

Majors represented

BIG researchers come from all four undergraduate colleges at UC Davis.

Our Facilities

Most of our members work out of the TEAM Molecular and BioInnovation Lab ().

BIG researchers can also use the Mechanical/Electrical Prototyping Facility (), which is located in the Genome and Biomedical Sciences Facility.

Students collaborate on research projects in our labs to make BIG things happen.
